How to play Aristorators

Welcome to the Aristoratic and Regal Society for Enabling Mass Urbane Debate.

Your purpose is to be crowned the finest Aristorator in a series of fun debates, each lasting between 8 and 20 minutes.

“I thought this would be really intimidating and pretentious, but any common idiot can enjoy it.”

British Test Player

“I'm an introvert and didn't want to play. But you made me, and actually I loved it.”

Honestly, this was another genuine test play comment

“I can't think of anything worse than a debating game. But this genuinely might be the best party game I've ever played.”

There are THREE CORE SKILLS for a WINNING ARISTORATOR

I. Speechmaking

Finishing speeches on time with the Plume Expression, the Duchy giving credits and discredits for your speech as they see fit.

II. Integrity

Correcting factual errors with a "Point of Order" but otherwise showing respect to the Speechmaker and not heckling or arguing.

III. Persuasion

Convincing the Duchy to at the end of the debate to rank the (original or new) debate answers so that they match those on your Arbitile.

Subject, shown on an "Epi Card" (Hover or click to see the other side)

The evening usually has as many debate rounds as players.

Each round is chaired by a “Duchy”.
(the role rotates to the left)

Each debate round covers one subject, shown on an Epi Card drawn by the Duchy.

Players each draw an “Arbitile” which they do not reveal.

Each Aristorator makes a speech of 30 or 120 seconds.

It is ONLY acceptable to interrupt speeches with “POINTS OF ORDER” – single, short, sharp corrections of fact.

Substitute answers can be suggested right up to the end of the debate by making a “PROPOSITION SPEECH”.

Credits are given for sound logic and strong argument and discredits for the opposite.

Aristorators get credits if at the end of the round the Duchy ranks Epi Card answers to match their Arbitile.

This ends the round. The role of Duchy passes to the left hand side, a new Epi Card is taken, and another meaningful debate begins.

The multiple ways to get credits and discredits creates a rare party game where every round brings multiple paths to victory, and there is true replayability.

People give lots of reasons why they love Aristorators

Aristorators is not about arguing or shouting. We want to see a world where a debate isn’t about attacking. The game has careful thinking on design mechanics.

We think we have a unique party game that is tactical, semi- strategic, chaotic, funny, accessible, engaging, avoids punching down, and has a limitless number of players.
